The Basics of Acupuncture

Acupuncture TreatmentCharge The Body for
Optimal Health

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been used for thousands of years. It is based on the belief that the body has energy channels called meridians, through which a vital energy called Qi flows. Acupuncture aims to restore the balance of Qi by inserting thin needles into specific points on the body.

Understanding Acupuncture

How Our Acupuncture Treatment Can Help

Acupuncture has shown that it benefits both body and mind. In addition to a comprehensive array of conditions, our acupuncturists at the Cloud Health Rehab Center specialize in the following popular areas:

Acupuncture for pain has been shown to assist in chronic pain where other treatments have fallen short. Numerous patients have expressed feeling relief in the first few treatments. In particular, acupuncture can help certain individuals decrease their reliance on painkillers by providing a holistic remedy that does not compromise quality of life in other ways.

Acupuncture is effective in treating TMD as it helps to reduce stress, pain and inflammation, and relax the muscles of the face and jaw. Speak to our experienced acupuncturist today to relieve your TMJ pain naturally.

Acupuncture offers weight loss support through hormone regulation, metabolism enhancement, digestion optimization, inflammation reduction, appetite suppression, water retention reduction, and the optimization of other factors relevant to obesity and weight management.

Our Acupuncture for Dry Eyes program, rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, offers a holistic solution. Thin needles gently restore ‘qi’ balance, improving circulation and reducing inflammation. Sessions are comfortable, using sterile, single-use needles. Discover natural relief for dry eyes

Acupuncture can help improve respiratory health by reducing inflammation and promoting relaxation, making it a useful treatment option for conditions such as asthma and allergies.

Migraines can be triggered by various factors such as stress, lack of sleep, excessive caffeine intake, or hormonal imbalances. Acupuncture has been proven effective in treating migraine symptoms and restoring balance to the body by reducing pain, inflammation, and neck muscle tension. It also helps promote relaxation and regulates serotonin levels in the brain.

Traditional Chinese medicine states that women have unique meridians and energy pathways that are specific to their reproductive system. These pathways can become blocked or imbalanced due to stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, or other factors. Acupuncture can balance these pathways by improving blood flow, reducing inflammation, and regulating hormones. It will also reduce pain and stimulate the release of hormones that can help to regulate the menstrual cycle.

Acupuncture can assist in decreasing inflammation and mucus, alleviating pain, enhancing lymphatic circulation for improved drainage, and bolstering the immune system to aid in recovery from ear infections and prevent future occurrences.

Acupuncture has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body, which can contribute to a wide range of health conditions, including autoimmune disorders, allergies, and chronic pain.

Acupuncture can help improve athletic performance by reducing pain and inflammation, speeding up recovery after workouts, and improving overall physical and mental well-being.

Safe and Effective Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture is a safe and minimally invasive procedure. The needles used are very thin, about the width of a human hair, and are typically inserted only a few millimeters deep into the skin. Acupuncture is generally painless, although some people may experience a mild sensation of pressure or warmth at the needle insertion site.

The benefits of acupuncture are thought to be due to its ability to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. Acupuncture has been shown to release endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers, as well as other neurotransmitters and hormones that can promote relaxation and improve overall well-being.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture goes beyond healthy younger-looking skin.  It also addresses the disharmonies in the body thereby improving overall health.  In TCM we observe and treat the body, mind, and emotions as a whole.  If there is an imbalance in one system, it affects all the others.

Fire Cupping & Smart Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient practice used to treat a variety of issues. It has continued on from its first use in ancient China, nearly 2000 years ago, up to the present day.

It can be considered massage in reverse; where massage exerts pressure downwards onto the muscles. Fire cupping produces negative pressure since it burns the oxygen, depriving the vacuum of oxygen.

We offer three types of cupping; Fire Cupping, Moveable Cupping and Flash Cupping. Cupping is an noninvasive treatment to promote blood flow and is most often used for muscular pain, joint pain, skin issues, or respiratory disorders.

Acupuncture is considered to be one of the safest forms of medicine, with large studies showing no side effects and minimal risks. For individuals who have negative associations to the word “needle”, acupuncture may conjure up images of unpleasant experiences with blood draws and injections, when in fact nothing could be further from the actual experience in acupuncture. For starters, acupuncture needles are extremely thin, flexible, and hair-like, compared to the thick and hollow needles used for western medical procedures. Additionally, they are only positioned on the very outer surface of the skin, sitting atop it, rather than penetrating deep into the tissues of the body. As such, often people may feel almost nothing during insertion of the majority of their needles. At times, if there is blockage in an area, it may create a mild and dull feeling of discomfort when a needle is inserted. However, this feeling is nothing like the “prick” one experiences with injections. The feeling is fleeting and this is even minimized by a compassionate and well-trained acupuncture specialist.

Your first session will begin with a consultation to discuss your health history and goals. Your acupuncturist will then perform the treatment.

Acupuncture is a health practice that works cumulatively, over time. While most patients say they begin to feel relaxing and tension-relieving benefits starting with the first session, it may take semi-regular treatments over the course of several weeks before optimal results are achieved. In China, it is common that patients will see a Chinese doctor every other day for several months. This level of care is often not necessary for every client, and the schedule of treatment will be determined after consultation with a Chinese medical specialist. For certain individuals, treatment may take place once or twice a week, while for others who are experiencing acute symptoms, it may be necessary appointments more frequently until results begin to emerge.
Acupuncture is often described as a very relaxing form of treatment. While it can be performed in as little as fifteen minutes sitting upright in a chair, in certain specific cases, it is more commonly delivered on a massage table. Patients are encouraged to rest and relax during their session. Therefore, you may find it most comfortable to wear comfortable, loose clothing. However, even busy business professionals can receive treatment while in dress clothes.
